National Award as the Best Institution in the Country
In our Vrudhseva Ashram, all the elderly are served with utmost care and affection, and at the same time, school and college students are invited to the Ashram and encouraged to interact with the elderly. Students are also taught to respect elders in society and humanity along with serving their parents.
Taking note of our service, *in the year 2013, the Government of India honored our institution as the Best Institution in the country serving senior citizens and creating respect for seniors in society, with a National Award at the hands of the then Hon'ble President Shri Pranab Mukherjee.
1.Vrudhseva Ashram, Sangli - Golden Jubilee Journey
A small sapling planted with the thoughts and actions envisioned by the late Mr. Joseph Fernandes was nurtured after him by former MLA Prof. Sharad Patil and his colleagues. With the help of generous donors and service-oriented organizations, the institution has now completed its golden jubilee journey with great strength.
For the last 50 years, this institution has been relentlessly carrying out the noble work of providing food, clothing, shelter, and medical service to the needy elderly men and women of all castes and religions. Till date, the institution has selflessly served more than 950 elderly people from Maharashtra and North Karnataka. Although the institution has government recognition for 50 elderly, 120 elderly are sheltered in its various branches and are served with a spirit of service. The number of elderly wanting to come to this old age home is increasing day by day. Therefore, the President and Board of Directors of the institution are striving to accommodate at least 100 elderly in this ashram.
2.Ambewadi (Meghjibhai Wadi) Leprosy Colony - Silver Jubilee Journey
Realizing the severity of livelihood problems of people undergoing treatment for leprosy and those who have recovered after treatment at Ambewadi (Miraj), the President of the institution, Prof. Sharad Patil, started this leprosy colony in 1997. Here too, services and facilities are provided just like in Vrudhseva Ashram. The service of this colony is running without any grant from the government. So far, more than 210 leprosy patients have benefited from the service here and currently 25 leprosy patients are in this ashram. The building of this ashram has become old and has started deteriorating, so the renovation of the building is a challenge before us.
3.Matoshri Vrudhseva Ashram, Mahagaon, Satara
The closed Matoshri Vrudhashram at Mahagaon in Satara district has been taken over by this institution since 2007 on a non-grant basis from the government. This ashram has been running uninterrupted for 15 years with the help of generous people in the society. Today, more than 30 men and women are sheltered in this ashram.
4.Virangula Kendra, Kupwad
The institution has also started a Virangula (Recreation) Center for the elderly men and women in the Kupwad area. Health camps, entertainment and awareness programs are organized in this center. Along with that, they are guided about their family problems and given service and help.
Restoring smiles and peace in life’s twilight
Vrudh Sevaashram is committed to providing a safe, dignified and affectionate environment for elderly people who are homeless, destitute or without dependable family support. Food and medicine are essential, but so are conversation, belonging and respect.
Residents receive accommodation, nutritious vegetarian meals, help with daily activities, health support and opportunities for prayer, recreation and community connection.
